In this course, you'll learn A Way We Sew a classic Oxford-style shirt with all the fixin's: - Bulk-free, button-down collar with sharp, well-formed points - Collar band with even join at the shirt front - Separate front buttonhole placket - Enclosed yoke with top-notch topstitching - Center back box pleat - Two-piece sleeve placket - Tidy topstitched cuffs, inside and out - Truly flat felled armhole and side seams - Pucker-free rolled hem What you’ll learn: - Adapt any classic shirt pattern to our techniques. - Efficient pattern layout for quick cutting. - Use interfacing as a template for stress-free collar, band, and cuffs - Chunk up your sewing steps and sew what you want, when you want - Precisely match any kind of print or plaid across center front, including a separate buttonhole placket - Work with bias cuts for a front placket, pockets, or a chevron pattern on the back yoke. - Sew flat felled seams and pucker-free rolled hems. - Make a pocket template - And so much more! All our online presentations include: - Illustrated instructions for the ‘tricky bits’: the collar, band, cuffs and placket so you can practice first (download pdfs) - Video tutorials of each step, from choosing a pattern, working with prints/plaids, to finishing the shirt. - Collar, band, cuff and placket pattern that can be customized to your size (downloaded as a pdf) - Live online 1 hour event with Leah, bring your questions, your sample, or just come and enjoy some sewing! Event will be taped for future viewing - Links to the taped live session, watch on your own time up to one month after the session aired. - Access to the A Way We Sew online forum with additional tips, info and discussion on all things Shirt making. Live sessions are the first Saturday of March, April, May and June, 10am-11am Pacific Standard Time. Returning students are invited to all live sessions. A Way We Sew focuses fun, functional methods to improve your sewing. Our methods are a little different. We like to "sew rogue" and have fun while learning new techniques you can apply to any sewing project.
